GIS Basic : Registration in GIS Example

Here at the Vancouver National Historic Reserve, a good set of registration points are the corners of the Fort Stockade, since it was reconstructed on the same location as the original Fort Stockade of 1845. The historic 1846 Covington map showing the Fort Stockade can be registered to the current reconstructed Stockade by telling the ArcGIS program that a certain point on the historic Stockade is in the same location as that point on today’s reconstructed Stockade. This ties the 1846 map to the current year! We can then display later maps over the Covington map to see how the building configuration inside the Fort Stockade changed over time.
